Senator Kingibe Slams Wike: FCT Movement Ban Is Excessive, Unnecessary

The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has raised concerns about the curfew imposed by Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of Saturday’s Area Council elections in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike had ordered a restriction of movement from 8 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday and also declared Friday a work-free day to allow residents to prepare for the polls.

Speaking to Arise Television on Friday, Kingibe argued that the curfew unnecessarily restricts the freedom of FCT residents in a democratic society. She noted that sensitive election materials are already in place and questioned the need for such a measure.

“From my observation, everything seems ready, both in terms of security and logistics. We, as members of the different area councils, confirmed yesterday that all materials had arrived and operations are on track,” she said.

“Many residents have evening commitments and responsibilities, and this curfew limits their freedom without clear justification. There have been no security breaches reported that would warrant such action, making it feel like an unnecessary infringement on citizens’ rights.”
