Sh*ck In Bayelsa: Governor Diri Orders Autopsy After Deputy Governor’s Sudden Death
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has ordered an autopsy to establish the cause of death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on Thursday after collapsing at his office.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Governor Diri made the announcement on Saturday during a visit by former President Goodluck Jonathan to the Government House in Yenagoa.
Reports indicate that Ewhrudjakpo slumped at his desk and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The sudden passing has fueled widespread speculation and conspiracy theories on social media.
Addressing the growing online narratives, Governor Diri condemned what he described as “a lot of nonsense going on on social media,” urging that the deputy governor’s death not be politicized.
He said, “I appeal to everyone. I have seen people politicize his death. In Ijaw land, there is no enmity in death. Let nobody politicize the passing of our beloved deputy governor. If anyone loves him, now is the time to show it.
“I have directed that an autopsy be carried out to determine the cause of his death. There is too much nonsense circulating online.
“Any statements should focus on eulogizing him and mourning his loss, as the state is currently in a mourning period. That is why we have declared three working days of mourning, and we expect everyone to observe it, just as the former president has done today.
“Let us love one another until the end, because one day, we will all face this reality.”
During the visit, former President Jonathan paid tribute to Ewhrudjakpo, describing him as unforgettable.
Jonathan stated, “For me, he was someone my foundation will never forget. He represented the governor at all our programs.
“This year in Accra, Ghana, he did the same. On November 20, he mobilized assembly members and commissioners to Abuja to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Foundation.
“Bayelsa State was always well represented whenever I had a program. This is a very sad moment for all of us.
“I was also a deputy governor, but he worked harder than I did. He seemed never to rest. This serves as a lesson for all of us to find time to rest.
“We pray that the state never experiences such an incident again and that God comforts his family and cushions the effect of this tragic loss on Bayelsa.”
