The suspension, effective February 9, 2026, follows reports that the aides participated in content considered inappropriate for public officials.

Those affected are Kelvin Okon, a non-statutory special assistant to the chairman, and Edet Okon, personal assistant to the council secretary.

In a statement, the council noted that the aides’ actions violated the standards expected of government officers and breached the oath to serve with discipline and integrity. The council also confirmed that it now possesses copies of the videos connected to the incident.

As part of the disciplinary action, the aides have been suspended from receiving all benefits associated with their positions, including salaries, for the duration of their suspension.

Chairman Asido emphasized that the decision aligns with the state government’s strict stance against misconduct in public service. The suspended aides have also been instructed to return all official documents and government property in their possession to the office of the council secretary within 24 hours.
