In a personally signed statement shared via his account, the President expressed gratitude for Egbetokun’s professionalism, commitment, and contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework.

Tinubu also announced that he has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, citing the prevailing security challenges across the country.

According to the President, he will soon convene the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General before forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation, in line with the Police Act 2020.

Tinubu stated that he accepted Egbetokun’s resignation following a letter in which the former police chief cited pressing family reasons. He thanked him for decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the country.

Expressing confidence in Disu’s leadership, Tinubu said his experience and operational expertise would provide stability and direction for the Force at this critical period.
