Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy has sparked reactions online after sharing a lighthearted explanation about why many modern marriages seem to break down more quickly than those of earlier generations.

In a video that quickly circulated on social media, the Mavin Records boss used wedding cakes as a humorous analogy to compare past and present relationships.

He noted that in earlier times, couples often chose fruit cakes made with alcohol for their weddings. According to him, these cakes were durable enough to last for long periods—sometimes up to a year—allowing couples to save part of it and enjoy it again on their first anniversary.

He jokingly suggested that this durability symbolized the strength and longevity of marriages in that era.

Don Jazzy then contrasted this with today’s trends, pointing out that many couples now opt for butter or ice-cream cakes, which tend to spoil quickly if not properly preserved.

He humorously implied that the shorter lifespan of these modern cakes reflects the perceived fragility of some contemporary marriages.

He also observed that modern wedding cakes are often highly decorative, with elaborate designs that may include non-edible materials, leaving only a small portion actually meant for consumption.
