He made the comments on Wednesday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.

This comes after the Senate approved the electronic transmission of results on Tuesday, while retaining manual collation as a backup measure.

Sani cautioned that electoral manipulation remains possible despite the use of technology.

“Electronic transfer does not mean we will have 100% free and fair elections. There is no electoral system that cannot be circumvented by those intent on rigging. Even with manual voting and electronic result transmission, manipulation can still occur.

“If the nation genuinely wants credible elections, it will achieve them, but where there is intent to manipulate, people will find a way. For instance, laws may prohibit inducements to voters, but without adequate manpower to monitor every corner, such practices will continue,” he explained.
