The report, which circulated on Monday, January 19, claimed that worshippers were kidnapped at Kurmin Wali village while attending a church service on Sunday. However, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, dismissed the allegation while speaking to journalists after a State Security Council meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.
Rabiu described the story as the handiwork of what he called “conflict entrepreneurs” and challenged those spreading the claim to provide verifiable information about the alleged victims.
“I challenge anyone making this allegation to produce the names of those supposedly kidnapped and other relevant details,” he said, warning that individuals who spread false information to destabilise the state would face legal consequences.
Similarly, the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area, Dauda Madaki, said he immediately deployed security personnel to the community after hearing the report but found no evidence to support it.
“Upon receiving the information, I mobilised the police and other security agencies to Kurmin Wali. We visited the church mentioned in the report, and there was no sign that any attack or kidnapping took place,” Madaki explained.
He added that traditional rulers and youth leaders in the area also denied any knowledge of such an incident. According to him, the village head, Mai Dan Zaria, as well as the youth leader, Bernard Bona, both confirmed that no kidnapping occurred.
Madaki further challenged those behind the report to substantiate their claims, noting that no list of victims had been presented despite repeated calls for evidence.
“I believe this rumour is being sponsored by individuals who are uncomfortable with the relative peace Kajuru has enjoyed under this administration,” he said.
The council chairman urged residents to remain calm, go about their normal activities, and report suspicious movements or false information to security agencies.
Also reacting, the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu (SAN), said religious leaders, including the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, visited the community to verify the claims.
“They interacted with residents and confirmed that the report circulated to the public was completely untrue,” Shuaibu stated, assuring citizens that the Kaduna State Government maintains zero tolerance for criminal activity and that security agencies remain on high alert across the state.
