Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has taken a swipe at former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, over his assertion that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is targeting him for political reasons.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a post shared on on Sunday, Odinkalu dismissed Malami’s claims, insisting that the anti-graft agency is merely operating in line with practices Malami himself institutionalised while in office.

Odinkalu described Malami’s tenure as Attorney-General as overtly political, referring to him as a “grubby and vexatiously political” public official.

He remarked that Malami should refrain from complaining, noting that if the EFCC’s actions now appear political, it is because they reflect the standards he set. According to him, the agency has no reason to deny acting in that manner.

The comments came in response to Malami’s allegation that the EFCC revoked his bail after he attended a political event in Kebbi State.

However, the EFCC countered the claim, stating that Malami failed to comply with the five conditions attached to his provisional bail, describing his allegations as untenable.

The commission maintained that it remains apolitical and advised the former minister to concentrate on meeting his bail requirements rather than making what it termed unfounded accusations.

Malami, who is currently under investigation for 18 alleged offences—including money laundering, abuse of office, and terrorism financing—has insisted that he did not violate any of the conditions of his bail.
