Subsidy Is Organized Crime!’ – Peter Obi Fires Strong Warning

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has described the fuel subsidy system in Nigeria as “organised crime,” insisting that he would not tolerate any form of corruption if elected president.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Obi criticised the current subsidy framework, arguing that it is riddled with irregularities.

He pointed to inconsistencies in official data on fuel consumption, stating that available evidence suggests the figures being reported are unrealistic.

According to him, Nigeria’s fuel usage appears disproportionately high when compared to countries with similar or even larger infrastructure and vehicle populations.

He questioned the credibility of the figures, suggesting that the discrepancy indicates systemic inefficiencies or abuse within the subsidy regime.

Meanwhile, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ben Nwoye, stated that the party is preparing to challenge Obi’s political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television, Nwoye acknowledged the impact of the Obidient Movement in the last election, adding that the APC would not underestimate Obi as it strategises for future contests.
