Paul Onuachu opened the scoring, while midfielder Raphael Onyedika netted a brace to secure Nigeria’s third consecutive win, allowing the Super Eagles to top Group C with nine points, ahead of Tunisia and Tanzania.
As a result, Nigeria will take on the third-placed team from Group F, with their opponent to be confirmed once the final round of group matches concludes. Group F remains tightly contested, with defending champions Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Mozambique all vying for the top spot.
Ivory Coast currently lead with four points, tied with Cameroon on points, head-to-head, goals scored, and goals conceded, leaving fair play points as the tiebreaker. Mozambique sit third on three points, just one behind the leaders, meaning any of the three teams could finish third depending on their final match results.
Meanwhile, Gabon, already eliminated and bottom of Group F, will face Ivory Coast, while Mozambique take on Cameroon in simultaneous fixtures that will decide the group standings.
Nigeria’s victory, coupled with Tanzania’s 1-1 draw against Tunisia, confirmed all the teams advancing to the knockout stage. Notably, the Taifa Stars of Tanzania made history by reaching the Round of 16 for the first time, finishing third in Group C ahead of Uganda.
The Super Eagles’ Round of 16 clash is set for Monday, January 5, in Fez. The complete knockout bracket will be finalized once all group standings are confirmed.
