Tension Builds As Obidients Call For INEC Chairman’s Resignation, Announce Protest

The Obidient Movement has called for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, over the commission’s handling of the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement, the group also announced plans for a nationwide protest, describing the recent developments as a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

The movement cautioned that remaining silent at such a time would amount to complicity, stressing the importance of civic action.

“There are moments in the life of a nation when silence becomes dangerous, and inaction becomes complicity. Nigeria has arrived at such a moment,” the statement read.

The group further alleged that INEC is increasingly being viewed as lacking impartiality under the current administration.

It warned that when institutions lose credibility, the democratic will of the people is at risk, and citizens must take action to defend it.

Among its demands, the Obidient Movement called for the immediate resignation of the INEC chairman, citing alleged abuse of office, loss of public trust, and failure to maintain neutrality.

The group also urged an end to what it described as political persecution, including intimidation and harassment of opposition figures, while calling for the protection of Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system.

Additionally, it demanded full respect for the autonomy of political parties, insisting that internal party affairs, including those of the ADC, should not be interfered with.

The movement concluded by announcing plans to launch a nationwide peaceful protest under the hashtag #OccupyINEC across all states and the Federal Capital Territory.
