Tension Deepens As Euracare Alleges Confidentiality Breach In Adichie Family Tragedy Probe

Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital has alleged that some established procedures and protocols were not properly followed during the investigation into the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Adichie-Esege.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Nkanu, the son of celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege, died on January 7, 2026, after receiving treatment at Atlantis Hospital and undergoing medical procedures at Euracare in Lagos.

On Tuesday, the Medical Director of Euracare and two other individuals were suspended by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel as part of the ongoing probe.

In response, Euracare said that while the investigation is ongoing, information protected under patient and institutional confidentiality appears to have been disclosed through channels outside the approved process.

In a statement issued to journalists, the hospital said it had carried out a comprehensive internal review of the clinical events since the matter began, in line with its clinical governance framework and global best practices. It added that it has consistently demonstrated a commitment to transparency and will continue to cooperate fully with all inquiries.

The hospital also expressed confidence in two members of its clinical team, Dr Tosin Majekodunmi and Dr Titus Ogundare, describing them as seasoned professionals with long-standing records of patient care in Nigeria.

According to Euracare, both doctors have made significant contributions to healthcare delivery in the country and have maintained standards of care comparable to those in leading medical institutions worldwide.

The hospital further stressed that all parties involved in the matter, including the institution and its staff, deserve a process that is thorough, impartial, and conducted in accordance with established rules.

It added that its management plans to formally raise its concerns about the alleged breaches through the appropriate legal and regulatory channels.
