Tension In Kano Politics: Abba Kabir Yusuf Speaks On Alleged Move To Oust Him

The governor made the claim while receiving a group of praise singers, known as Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida, at the Government House in Kano.

It will be recalled that Abdussalam recently resigned from his position and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid impeachment moves initiated by the State House of Assembly. However, the lawmakers later halted the impeachment process shortly after his resignation.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Yusuf said he had not seen or received any formal resignation letter from his former deputy, adding that his administration did nothing to justify such a decision.

He alleged that Abdussalam’s actions were motivated by an ambition to remove him from office and assume leadership of the state, but insisted that the plan failed because it was not permitted by God.

According to him, “Today, the deputy governor who was elected alongside us is no longer part of this government. No one wronged him. In fact, I have not even seen his resignation letter, so why should I be bothered?

“Whatever led him to act that way was an attempt to depose me and take over the seat, but God did not allow it.”

Governor Yusuf also expressed concern over Abdussalam’s treatment within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, questioning why he was not given the political opportunity he reportedly sought.

He added, “The deputy governor who left in hopes of securing that ticket—what was his offence? Why was he not given the chance? Is that not unfair to him?”
