Tanko accused officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of failing to announce results from certain polling areas where the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was reportedly in the lead.

According to him, results from Gwarinpa, Garki and Karu had been concluded since about 9 p.m. but had not yet been declared.

“The situation in this country is becoming more alarming than I thought. Reports reaching us in the Situation Room indicate that Gwarinpa, Garki and Karu results have been ready since nine o’clock, yet they have refused to announce them because Dr Mo is leading,” he said.

Tanko further claimed that tensions had escalated in the affected areas, alleging that unrest had broken out.

“At the moment, there is heavy mobilisation and teargas has been deployed,” he added.

Call for Vigilance

Tanko called on Nigerians and leaders of the ADC to remain alert and resist what he described as efforts to manipulate the outcome of the election.

“I am using this opportunity to urge Nigerians to stay vigilant. I am personally on ground,” he said.

He also appealed to ADC leaders to speak out against what he characterised as attempts to undermine their candidate, popularly known as Dr Mo, whom he insisted was leading the contest.

“This is a critical test ahead of the general elections. We must address it now. I urge everyone to mobilise and ensure that the right thing is done. They should announce the results immediately,” Tanko stated.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC had not issued an official response to the allegations.
