In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President confirmed that former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has been named the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

Tinubu Explains the Shake-Up
President Tinubu stated that the leadership overhaul was aimed at “further strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture.”
He said, “General Olufemi Oluyede is appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General W. Shaibu becomes Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke is Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff, while Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.”
Expressing appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, especially General Musa, Tinubu praised their “selfless service and committed leadership,” urging the new appointees to uphold professionalism and unity.
“I charge the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, maintain vigilance, and strengthen unity as they serve our nation with honour,” the President added.
