He raised the concern on Monday while hosting heads of security agencies for the breaking of the Ramadan fast, alleging that some actors intend to exploit the guise of free speech to incite unrest. According to him, certain opposition figures are circulating misinformation aimed at triggering tension in the state.
The governor assured residents that his administration would not allow any attempt to undermine peace and security, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law. He emphasised that freedom of expression does not extend to spreading falsehoods capable of endangering lives and property.
“Some people sit comfortably in their homes and spread rumours on social media. No one should hide under the banner of free speech to cause chaos. We will not tolerate that in Kaduna State,” he said. “We will address conflict merchants who seek to disrupt the current peace in the name of politics, strictly within the law.”
Governor Sani noted that Kaduna remains a state that accommodates people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds, and pledged that his government would continue to safeguard this unity.
He also reminded security chiefs that political activities are set to intensify, with party primaries scheduled between April and May in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable. He cautioned that some politicians who fail to secure tickets may attempt to portray themselves as victims and spread misinformation, urging security agencies to remain alert.
The governor further called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, local government chairmen, and traditional and religious leaders to enhance intelligence gathering at the grassroots. He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work with all stakeholders to strengthen security and tackle challenges such as banditry and kidnapping in the state.
