The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly taken into custody an Osun State-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, following the circulation of a video in which he and members of his group called for a “Free Palestine” protest.
Sheikh Molaasan, identified as the leader of the Ta’awunu Muslimeen group, was arrested after the video went viral on social media, raising security concerns among authorities.
According to Sahara Reporters, the detention is part of ongoing intelligence-led operations by the DSS to monitor public gatherings and online mobilisations that could pose threats to public order.
Naija News reports that the DSS has yet to release an official statement regarding the arrest. However, operatives are said to be reviewing the content, context, and intent of the video, as well as the activities of the group involved, under Nigeria’s internal security laws.
The arrest occurs amid intensified surveillance by security agencies over protests and religious gatherings, especially those linked to international conflicts, as authorities seek to prevent potential domestic unrest.
