One of the captives has been identified as Hon. Hassan Biu Miringa, a former Chairman of Biu Local Government Area. The two men were kidnapped on December 17, 2025, while traveling from Miringa to Maiduguri.
In the video, shared by Zagagola Makama, the victims confirmed they were still alive but revealed that their captors had demanded a ransom of $150,000 each, totaling $300,000, for their release.
Speaking from captivity, Miringa said the abductors, whom he described as “soldiers of Khilafa,” had set the ransom at $300,000.
He said:
“My name is Hassan Biu Miringa, former Local Government Chairman of Biu Local Government from 2020 to 2022. We were abducted by soldiers of Khilafa in December 2025, about 14 days ago, and are still being held. Alhamdulillah, we are still alive. But we need help to save our lives and for someone to rescue us.”
Miringa added that negotiations with the captors were ongoing and that some form of understanding had been reached.
“We have spoken with them on four different occasions and reached an agreement. We are appealing to our leaders—especially the Borno Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Umar Kadafur, Hon. Betera Aliyu representing Biu, Kwaya, and Shani at the National Assembly, our leader Dr. Sule Ali Rimi, Hon. Kimba, and Alhaji Musa Dogo Biu—to temper justice with mercy and come to our aid. We are their children and have been working together,” he said.
Miringa reiterated the ransom demand and pleaded for urgent assistance to save their lives.
“The ransom placed on us is $150,000 each, totaling $300,000. We are hoping our cries are heard and that help comes so we can be reunited with our families and loved ones. May Allah help us and grant lasting peace,” he concluded.
