Amandi, a Nollywood filmmaker and former chairman of the AGN’s Enugu State chapter, was reportedly arrested last year along with civilians accused of involvement in the foiled coup attempt.
Speaking to TheCable Lifestyle on Friday, former AGN National President Emeka Rollas confirmed that the guild is aware of the situation and said an official statement would be released soon.
Premium Times reported that Amandi was allegedly recruited by military officers behind the plot to act as a propagandist, shaping narratives and influencing public opinion ahead of the planned takeover.
The report added that the officers involved had allegedly planned a violent overthrow, targeting top government officials.
Rumors of a possible coup first surfaced in October 2025, following the sudden cancellation of events marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. At that time, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) dismissed any link between the cancellation and a coup, describing the arrests of certain officers as disciplinary.
However, on October 31, 2025, 16 military officers were arrested in connection with the alleged plot, with two others reportedly at large.
Subsequently, the Defence Headquarters officially confirmed the uncovering of a coup plan, stating that implicated officers will face court-martial, while civilians involved—including Amandi—will be tried in civil courts.
