We Regret Peter Obi Left!’ – Inside Alex Otti’s Secret Meeting With Labour Party NEC

Abia State Governor and Labour Party leader, Alex Otti, on Saturday met with members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja, days after a court confirmed that Julius Abure was no longer the party’s National Chairman.

The meeting focused on resolving internal party matters and charting a new direction following recent developments.

Speaking to journalists afterward, Otti said the NEC decided to begin preparations for party congresses and a national convention.

“Very soon the congresses will take place, and the national convention will follow,” he said, adding that preparations for the congresses are scheduled to start in March.

The governor also revealed that the NEC discussed revalidating party membership and registering new members nationwide. A committee has been established to oversee the process.

“The other major issue discussed was the revalidation of membership and registration of new members. A committee has been set up, and this process will begin very soon,” Otti said.

Regret Over Peter Obi’s Exit

Otti expressed regret over the departure of the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, wishing him well despite leaving the Labour Party.

“We also regretted the exit of the former leader and presidential candidate of the party. While we regret his departure, we wish him well,” he stated.

Acknowledging that the party had lost some members to defections, including National Assembly members, Otti insisted that the Labour Party remains strong.

“We’ve lost a few members to defections, even some from the National Assembly. But despite that, this party remains strong,” he said.

He further disclosed that the NEC resolved to establish a reconciliation committee to welcome back aggrieved members, with the interim National Working Committee (NWC) advising on the appropriate timing for its formation.

“The goal is to reconcile everyone who wishes to return,” he explained.

Otti also appealed to Julius Abure and his supporters to return and embrace peace.

“We appeal to Julius Abure and his team to sheath their swords and come back to the party. If they follow the party’s rules, we will be glad to welcome them,” he said.

He reassured Nigerians and prospective members that the party’s doors remain open.

“We also want to tell those who want to join the party that our doors are open to receive them,” he added.

However, Otti announced that the Labour Party will not participate in the upcoming Federal Capital Territory council elections.

“Finally, we regret that we won’t be able to participate as a party in the forthcoming FCT council elections,” he said.

Despite these challenges, the Abia State governor expressed confidence that the Labour Party would emerge stronger and more united, emphasizing the party’s commitment to rebuilding and establishing itself as a formidable political force.
