We Won’t Accept 2023-Style Rigging Again” – Obidient Movement Fires Warning At Senate Ahead Of 2027
The Obidient Movement has warned that the irregularities and alleged “criminality” that marred the 2023 general elections will not be allowed to recur in 2027, accusing the Senate of moves aimed at weakening Nigeria’s electoral integrity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, the movement criticised what it described as the Senate’s attempt to undermine free, fair and credible elections, describing the situation as both ironic and hypocritical.
Tanko noted that while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) freely adopts electronic registration and digital systems for its internal party processes, it resists similar transparency measures for national elections.
The movement called on Nigerians, civil society groups and the international community to oppose what it described as a dangerous rollback of democratic standards in the country.
It further accused the APC, which it said controls the National Assembly, of pushing legislative actions that threaten Nigeria’s democratic future, alleging that critical electoral reforms are being deliberately stalled to protect the interests of a political elite.
The Obidient Movement urged citizens to remain alert and lawfully prepared to resist any attempt at electoral manipulation.
“The demand reflects the will of the Nigerian people, and we call on citizens across the country to participate in the protest in pursuit of electoral transparency and democratic reform,” the statement said.
“The ruling APC has clearly shown its intention to undermine free, fair and credible elections. It is ironic for a party that relies on electronic processes internally to deny Nigerians the same level of transparency at the national level.
“We will not stand by while the future of our nation is sacrificed for the political advantage of a privileged few. The irregularities witnessed during the 2023 elections will not be tolerated in 2027. Nigerians must be ready to lawfully resist and reject any attempt at democratic sabotage and reclaim their country.”
