We’re Prepared!” – Obidient Movement Vows Resistance Amid Alleged Attempt To Arrest Peter Obi

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed reports suggesting that security agencies plan to bring corruption charges against former presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking to Punch, Tanko emphasized that the former Anambra governor has a spotless record and has never been indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the Department of State Services (DSS) for corruption.

His comments come amid reports that Obi and other opposition figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could face arrest, following the alleged persecution of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Other notable politicians reportedly on the watchlist include former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Tanko, however, insisted that Obi and his supporters would not be intimidated.

“Peter Obi’s integrity has been proven beyond reasonable doubt. Nigerians and even the security agencies know he is as clean as a whistle,” he said.

He added, “We have been preparing for the extra measures this government may take because we know it will stop at nothing to intimidate, coerce, or harass opposition figures to consolidate power. We are ready. If they attempt this, they will have to answer to the Nigerian people. We are waiting, and we are prepared for anything.”

On whether he believed the alleged harassment of opposition figures was linked to the 2027 elections, Tanko said, “Yes, of course. This is clearly about the 2027 elections and nothing else. We are ready for whatever action they decide to take.”

Asked if Obi’s camp suspected broader efforts to manipulate the 2027 polls in favor of the ruling party, Tanko claimed that the process had already begun.

“Rigging has already started. The government is using new laws to try and legitimize their actions. They are coercing, intimidating, and taking over the National Assembly to cement their control. This is all part of a plan to manipulate the electoral process,” he said.

Tanko concluded, “True democrats in Nigeria will not accept domination or actions that work against the interest of the people. It is now up to the populace to reject this rigging machine that has already been set in motion.”
