The father of the late singer Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, has refuted allegations made by the legal team of his son’s widow, Cynthia Wunmi Adebanjo, accusing him of attempting to interfere with the DNA testing process for his grandson, Liam.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Aloba, he was the one who initiated the push for the DNA test from the outset and has never taken any action to delay or manipulate the process.

His position was clarified in a statement released over the weekend by his lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe.

Ogungbe explained that the recent application filed in court was solely to ensure transparency, neutrality, and proper judicial oversight in the collection and analysis of DNA samples.

He also recalled the proceedings of December 2, 2025, during which Wunmi was confronted with credible information suggesting she had already conducted a DNA test in secret. According to him, she did not deny the claim before the magistrate.

The lawyer questioned why, if the test results truly favoured her, they had not been made public.

“Her silence in the face of such a serious allegation is deeply troubling—particularly because the results, based on available intelligence, were reportedly suspicious and unfavourable. If she was fully confident in the paternity of the child, there would be no reason to conduct the test secretly,” he stated.

Addressing claims of infidelity, Ogungbe maintained that Mohbad had earlier confided in his father about alleged unfaithful acts by the respondent. He said that when the issue was raised in court, Wunmi did not expressly deny the allegation.

“Mr. Aloba’s relationship with her was always guided by fatherly concern until he became aware of disturbing revelations—and shortly afterwards, Mohbad died under circumstances still unclear,” he added.

Ogungbe insisted that Wunmi’s failure to refute allegations of both a secret DNA test and infidelity casts serious doubt on claims by her legal team that Aloba is attempting to manipulate the process.

To guarantee integrity and eliminate bias, the applicant’s counsel requested that the DNA test be carried out at either DNA Diagnostics Center in Ohio, USA, or Orchid Cellmark in Wolverhampton, UK—both internationally accredited laboratories. He also proposed that all costs be borne by the applicant.

The lawyer justified his preference for testing abroad by citing the controversial experience during the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, where the result of an examination was declared inconclusive.

“This inconsistency reinforces the applicant’s demand for a fully transparent, internationally supervised DNA process. While Mr. Aloba trusts the court, he has reasonable concerns regarding the involvement of certain state officials in the handling of biological samples,” Ogungbe stated.
