Why Tinubu Picked Tunji Disu As IGP — Ex-Police Chief Mike Okiro Reveals All

Disu succeeded Kayode Egbetokun during a handover ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday. Prior to that, President Bola Tinubu formally decorated him with his new rank as acting Inspector-General of Police at the State House in Abuja.

Commenting on the development during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Okiro expressed confidence that Nigerians would ultimately applaud President Tinubu for the appointment.

“He served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, and I believe he performed exceptionally well. That, in my view, informed the President’s decision to appoint him,” Okiro said.

“I am confident that, in time, Nigerians will commend President Tinubu for selecting him as Inspector-General of Police.”

Okiro, however, noted that the new IGP faces significant challenges, particularly regarding the current condition of the police force.

“There is a great deal of work ahead of him. The state of the police is in a very poor condition and morale is quite low.

“I commend him and wish him success. Knowing his capability, I believe he will confront these challenges directly, and in the end, Nigerians will be satisfied.”
