Wike Doesn’t Respect Rule Of Law” – Ireti Kingibe Breaks Silence On Explosive Criticism
The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has said that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has not maintained meaningful engagement with the territory’s elected officials.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
She made the remark on Wednesday while speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, where she assessed Wike’s performance since assuming office.
Kingibe admitted that the minister has achieved visible progress in areas such as road construction, but criticised what she described as his frequent disregard for the rule of law.
She recalled writing to Wike to appreciate the rehabilitation of Kunene Close, her street, explaining that the letter was wrongly interpreted by some as a sign of political support.
“Whenever someone does something worthy of praise, I will acknowledge it. That letter was simply to thank him for fixing a long-neglected road, not because it happened to be on my street,” she said.
The senator stressed that holding the executive accountable remains part of her constitutional responsibilities.
“The minister has done some commendable things, but there are many instances where he does not follow the rule of law. It is my duty to point out those shortcomings. It is not personal,” Kingibe stated.
She also expressed concern over the lack of regular consultation between the FCT minister and lawmakers, noting that past ministers held monthly meetings to deliberate on residents’ needs.
“Nearly three years into his tenure, I have never met with him in any official forum,” she said, adding that pressing issues such as waste management and security continue to affect the territory.
Kingibe voiced optimism that the coming year would see improved collaboration between the minister and elected representatives, emphasising that stronger cooperation would better serve residents of the nation’s capital.
