The governor highlighted the theme, ‘Creating Pathways for Peace: Tackling Banditry and Insurgency through Good Governance for Sustainable Development,’ as relevant and timely. He stressed the crucial role of good governance in preventing future insurgencies, particularly in the aftermath of the Boko Haram crisis. Zulum mentioned that his administration adopted both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to address the Boko Haram crisis, focusing on the root causes of insurgency.
To combat banditry, insurgency, and insecurity, the Borno State Government has implemented various projects across key sectors. Zulum affirmed the commitment to promoting good governance and addressing all forms of insecurity through these initiatives. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, and former Governor of Niger State, attributed the rise of banditry and insecurity to deep-rooted socio-economic and governance issues.
