The Rivers State Police Command has rescued a kidnapping victim identified as Hassan after three days in captivity and arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate operating in Port Harcourt.

The victim was reportedly abducted at gunpoint on September 6 around the Fidelity Bank area of Garrison, Port Harcourt, and taken to Igbugulu Waterside in Borokiri.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.

According to Agabe, the command received information about the abduction on September 7, a day after the incident occurred. She said the victim’s relatives were allegedly compelled to pay N10.3 million in ransom before his release.

Following the report, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) launched an intelligence-led operation to track the suspects.

The police said two suspected members of the gang were subsequently arrested during the operation, while preliminary investigations indicated that they allegedly confessed to participating in the abduction.

Agabe said the suspects reportedly disclosed that the syndicate comprised six members and that a white minibus was used during the kidnapping operation.

The police spokesperson said the gang was allegedly involved in kidnapping activities in parts of Rivers State.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the command has intensified efforts to locate the remaining four suspects who are still at large and bring them to justice.

The police assured members of the public that investigations and intelligence operations would continue as authorities work to dismantle the suspected kidnapping network in the state.
