The state government enacted the curfew on Sunday in response to violence and looting by some protesters in the Jos North Local Government Area. Adesina explained that the peaceful nationwide protest had been disrupted by miscreants who engaged in vandalism, prompting the curfew to mitigate further damage.
Adesina emphasized that the curfew remains in effect and warned that violators will face prosecution. “We have arrested 14 individuals for breaking the curfew and urge residents to remain indoors until the government revises the curfew,” he stated.
Brig.-Gen. Gakji Shipi (retd.), the governor’s Special Adviser on Security, appealed to residents to avoid violence and embrace peaceful coexistence. He assured that the government is committed to supporting security efforts to maintain peace in Plateau.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang presided over the security meeting, where these issues were discussed.
