18 Teams Battle For Ikorodu All-Stars Unity Cup Glory

Eighteen teams from communities across Ikorodu Constituency 2 are set to compete for honours as the third edition of the AMA All-Stars Unity Football Championship begins on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the tournament is designed to promote unity, effective communication and stronger relationships among residents and communities within the constituency.

The organisers recently held the competition’s draw ceremony, unveiled a new trophy and distributed new jerseys to all participating teams. A seminar was also organised to educate players and officials on the latest FIFA rules governing football officiating.

Speaking at the event, the tournament sponsor and member representing Ikorodu Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Aro Moshood Abiodun, said football was deliberately chosen as a means of bringing residents together while creating an avenue for direct interaction between elected representatives and their constituents.

Abiodun stressed that the central objective of the championship was to foster unity across the constituency, urging the participating teams to approach the tournament with a spirit of friendship and togetherness.

He noted that previous editions had provided opportunities for residents to engage with him and raise issues affecting their communities, adding that the true success of the competition would go beyond the team that eventually wins the trophy.

The defending champions, Makbet All-Stars, are determined to retain their title, with their coordinator, Akinbode Akinade, declaring that the team would once again go all out for the championship.

Nwannedinamba All-Stars, who finished as runners-up in the previous edition, are also confident of going one step further this year. Coach Okechukwu Ofoha said his team was prepared to claim the newly unveiled trophy.

Meanwhile, Abiodun revealed that the Igbogbo Stadium, which hosted the previous final, is now about 85 per cent complete. He said the main structure, spectator stands and football pitch had reached an advanced stage, while work on the indoor sports facilities was also nearing completion.

The lawmaker also urged residents to support the communication of government programmes and projects within the constituency to ensure that more people are aware of ongoing developments.

The championship is expected to run until November, with organisers maintaining that although only one team will emerge champion, the broader objective is to strengthen unity, friendship and communication among communities in Ikorodu Constituency 2.
