New information has surfaced regarding the tragic killing of Anas Zubairu, a 19-year-old student from Nasarawa State.

On Sunday, September 1, 2024, reports revealed that Zubairu was kidnapped last Friday evening around 6 p.m. in Lafia. Despite a ransom being paid, he was ultimately killed by his abductors.

According to a report from Daily Trust, Zubairu’s family paid N17 million to secure his release. Zubairu, who was a student at a Moroccan university, had returned home for the holidays when he was abducted.

After spending some time with his family, Zubairu left the house, intending to park his car and secure the gate before heading inside. It was at this moment that the kidnappers, who had been lying in wait nearby, ambushed him, shooting him in the left shoulder.

A close relative, speaking on condition of anonymity, shared that the kidnappers took Zubairu to an undisclosed location after the attack. Five days later, the abductors contacted the family, demanding a ransom of N30 million. After negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N17 million, which the family paid.

Tragically, despite paying the ransom, the family lost all contact with the kidnappers two days later. Early on Sunday morning, the kidnappers informed the family that Zubairu had been killed.

This heartbreaking incident has shocked the community and raised concerns about safety in the region.
