2027: Aisha Yesufu Reveals Why She Rejected House Of Reps Ticket

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has explained why she declined an offer to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu said her decision was driven by her commitment to personal principles and integrity, stressing that she would not accept political office if doing so required her to compromise her values.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the activist made the disclosure during an interview with Symfoni TV, where she explained that some of the political offers presented to her came with conditions she was unwilling to accept.

Yesufu maintained that political power should not be pursued at all costs, noting that she would rather remain outside government than take a position that could force her to act against her convictions.

She explained that she declined the House of Representatives ticket because other individuals involved in the process were operating based on principles that she could not compromise. She also disclosed that some offers came with expectations and conditions, which she was not prepared to fulfil.

The activist further stressed that she was not desperate to become president or hold political office, insisting that public service should be based on genuine commitment rather than personal ambition.

Her decision comes after NDC national leader Seriake Dickson disclosed that he and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had offered Yesufu the House of Representatives ticket.

Despite the opportunity, Yesufu chose not to proceed with the offer, maintaining that she would not make promises she could not keep or accept arrangements that could undermine her principles.

Her remarks have further highlighted her long-standing position that political participation should not come at the expense of integrity, accountability and commitment to the Nigerian people.
