2027 Bombshell: Delta South Senator Declares Oborevwori APC’s Unstoppable Governorship Flagbearer

Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, hosted a significant political gathering on Saturday, welcoming a group of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the event, Senator Joel-Onowakpo officially endorsed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the APC’s sole governorship candidate for Delta State in the 2027 election.

The meeting, held at the senator’s residence, brought together APC leaders from all eleven wards in the Isoko South Local Government Area. It served as both a unifying session and a strategic move ahead of the 2027 polls.

Attendees expressed strong confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo, praising their dedication and vision.

Among the high-profile guests were Chief Lucky Esigie, APC leader in Isoko Nation; Hon. Johnson Erijo, Chief of Staff to the Delta State Governor; former DESOPADEC Managing Director Odio Askia Ogeh; Comrade Egbogbo Vincent, APC Chairman in Isoko South; and lawmakers Hon. Onwo Ferguson and Hon. Bino Obowomano. Also present was Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, Delta State Commissioner for Land, Survey and Urban Development.

Speakers at the gathering stressed the need for unity and collective commitment to ensure APC’s victory in 2027. Senator Joel-Onowakpo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content, emphasized that the party is inclusive, stating that there is no distinction between old and new members in the APC.

He declared, “The leader of the APC in Delta State is the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori,” and affirmed that this stance aligns with the directives of the Presidency and national party leadership.

Senator Joel-Onowakpo made it clear that the party’s governorship ticket for 2027 is not open for contest, stating, “Delta State Governorship is not vacant. We already have a focused administration that deserves our full backing to complete its mandate.”

He urged party leaders, particularly at the ward level, to welcome new members without bias and warned against any actions that could create internal divisions.

A major highlight of the event was a motion of confidence moved by Hon. Ferguson Onwo and seconded by Dr. Sylvester Onoyona, APC’s 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Isoko North and South. The motion, endorsing President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo, was unanimously adopted by the attendees.
