2027 Drama Looms: ADC Reveals Position If Atiku, Obi, Amaechi Clash Over Consensus

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has stated that the party will adopt a consensus approach in selecting its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Abdullahi disclosed this on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television, stressing that the party would only conduct a competitive primary if aspirants fail to agree on a consensus candidate.

He explained that the ADC is not interested in being drawn into zoning controversies or premature presidential declarations, noting that its immediate priority is to strengthen party structures across the country.

“Atiku says he will run, Obi says he will run, Amaechi says he will run—none of that stops anyone else. What we are committed to is ensuring a level playing field. We will pursue consensus, and if that does not work, we will go to competitive primaries. For us, the focus now is building a solid structure, not rushing into zoning conversations,” Abdullahi said.

This comes as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already zoned their 2027 presidential tickets to the South, raising public curiosity about the ADC’s stance.
