Published

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, October 6, as the countdown to the 2027 general elections reaches 100 days.

The meeting is expected to provide Nigerians and key stakeholders with an update on the commission’s level of preparedness for the elections, including issues surrounding the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being implemented to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The event, scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, will be addressed by INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the engagement is intended to give the public a clearer understanding of the commission’s preparations while strengthening communication and cooperation among institutions and organisations involved in the conduct and security of the elections.

Expected participants include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners and civil society organisations.

Election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to participate in the meeting.

INEC is expected to use the occasion to address several key areas of its preparations, particularly the voters’ register, nomination of candidates, electoral logistics and steps being taken to ensure a credible and transparent election.

The commission said the meeting is consistent with its commitment to transparency, effective public communication and collaboration with stakeholders ahead of the polls.

The engagement comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties and candidates already stepping up preparations for the polls.

According to INEC’s published timetable, the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.

Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 10am, with participants expected to be seated before the commencement of proceedings.

INEC said the event would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms to enable Nigerians who cannot attend physically to follow the proceedings.

Attendance at the venue will be strictly by invitation, while accredited journalists and other invited guests will be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
