Speaking during an appearance on ARISE Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Umahi argued that Obi would not be able to defeat President Tinubu at the polls.
The minister also dismissed Obi’s political influence, claiming that “nobody is scared” of the former Anambra State governor and accusing him of practising what he described as “AI politics.”
Umahi further asserted that he could defeat Obi in an election, adding that the prospect of Obi challenging President Tinubu was even less realistic.
He also criticised Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, alleging that his administration fell short in key sectors, including healthcare and infrastructure.
According to Umahi, Obi prioritised saving public funds while leaving contractors unpaid and failed to deliver adequately on road construction, healthcare and other critical projects.
“Peter Obi is playing AI politics. Nobody is scared of him,” Umahi said.
He added, “As governor, Obi invested money in a bank while owing contractors. Even the education sector during his time was built around special centres. Obi cannot even face me, let alone face President Bola Tinubu.”
Umahi’s remarks come days after he accused Obi of repeatedly attacking his integrity and personality.
Speaking at the flag-off of the Akwanga–Jos Superhighway project, the minister alleged that Obi lacked a proper understanding of governance and criticised him for sharing images of damaged sections of roads on social media, claiming it was an attempt to score political points.
Umahi also challenged the former Anambra governor to a public debate over their respective records in public office.
