He made the call while urging supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and members of the Obidient Movement to close ranks and work together ahead of upcoming elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Obi disclosed that he delivered the message on Saturday during a joint meeting with the ADC and the Obidient Movement in Asaba, Delta State.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that the collective objective should be the emergence of a competent government focused on tackling Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, including insecurity, poverty, education, healthcare, and hunger.
He emphasized that the nation’s commonwealth must be managed in a way that benefits every citizen.
Obi stated: “On Saturday, February 7, in Asaba, Delta State, I met with members of the ADC and the Obidient Movement, where I stressed the need for us to come together as one family and work toward a shared goal—the creation of a united and new Nigeria that is achievable.”
He noted that national unity remains essential, saying Nigeria requires cooperation across regions—from Sokoto to Borno, Nasarawa to Anambra, and Rivers to Lagos.
“We must unite around the common purpose of building competent leadership that has the capacity, compassion, and commitment to deliver good governance and address critical issues such as security, poverty, education, healthcare, and hunger,” he said.
Obi also called for a shift in Nigeria’s political culture, urging leaders to move away from transactional politics and rent-seeking toward using national resources to create shared prosperity.
“In this new Nigeria, politics must serve the people, and every child—no matter their background—must have the opportunity to achieve greatness without dependence on powerful interests,” he added.
