2027 Race: Peter Obi Stands Tall As Only Genuine Candidate – PDP Chieftain Fires Shots At Rivals

Ahead of the 2027 election, Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate from 2023, is the only true contender for the future of Nigeria.

Sowunmi made this statement during a talk show held in Abuja on Friday, organized by the Obidient Movement, with support from the Cyrus Group and the Free Nigeria Foundation, as part of the May Day celebrations.

Although a PDP member, Sowunmi expressed his belief that Nigeria’s future lies with Peter Obi. He emphasized that Obi is genuinely committed to solving the nation’s issues, unlike other candidates who are waiting for the right opportunities but are not yet prepared.

Sowunmi added, “While I belong to the PDP, the future of Nigeria is in Peter Obi. He is the only authentic candidate; the others are mere pretenders. I am concerned about how we continue to exchange power between the North and the Southwest while sidelining the important Igbo zone, especially when someone like Obi, who represents the future, is available.”

Also speaking at the event, the Acting National Chairman of the LP, Senator Nenadi Usman, highlighted that the Labour Party is for workers in all sectors, from construction sites to hospitals and security. She reaffirmed the LP’s focus on workers’ welfare, emphasizing fair wages, labor rights, health and housing programs, and the enforcement of labor laws.

Senator Usman cautioned that a government may tout achievements that fail to improve the people’s welfare, marking such leadership as a failure. She urged Nigerians to stay strong and not compromise their future, advising, “Stay the course; don’t sell your birthright for tomorrow’s children.”

In addition, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senator Ireti Kingibe criticized Nigerian youths and the Obidient Movement for not doing enough to take ownership of the country’s future, warning, “You are too quiet, and we are heading downhill.”
