2027: Yari Warns Northerners Against Demanding Presidency, Speaks On Nigeria’s Unity

Published

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Abdul’aziz Yari, has cautioned northerners against insisting that Nigeria’s presidency must always return to the northern region, saying such a position could undermine national unity.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Yari made the remarks on Sunday while speaking to a gathering of prominent Islamic scholars at the residence of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi in Bauchi State. The engagement was part of the campaign council’s consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the 2027 political activities.

The former Zamfara State governor stressed the importance of maintaining national cohesion by allowing political leadership to emerge from different parts of the country. He argued that an insistence on having only northern leaders occupy the presidency could create divisions among Nigerians.

Yari said Nigeria’s diversity requires an approach that promotes unity and equality, suggesting that presidential leadership should alternate between the northern and southern parts of the country.

He explained that when a president emerges from the North, the South should have an opportunity to produce the next president, describing such rotation as a way of managing the country’s diversity.

The APC campaign council delegation had also visited Jos, Plateau State, where it paid a condolence visit to Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir following the death of the National Treasurer of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS).

The delegation has continued consultations with religious, political and community stakeholders in different parts of the country as preparations and engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.
