21 Admission Candidates Caught With Fake JAMB Results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) reported that 21 candidates with counterfeit IJMB results were recommended for the 2023 admissions cycle by various institutions. JAMB emphasized that these recommendations were not approved, noting, “JAMB discovered that 21 candidates with fake IJMB results were recommended during the 2023 admission process. Twelve of these recommendations came from ABU, Zaria—a striking example of audacity. The recommendations were made before certificate screening was conducted.”

The report also highlighted that five institutions were involved in these recommendations and reiterated JAMB’s requirement that all certificates must bear the signature of the Head of the institution (VC/Provost/Rector).

In response to issues of result falsification, JAMB introduced the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform in 2021 for validating IJMB and JUPEB results. This step followed an operation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Ministry of Education, which exposed irregularities in result verification. JAMB affirmed that these measures, along with others in development, are aimed at preserving the integrity of the education sector and preventing the erosion of its achievements by unscrupulous individuals.
