The chairpersons have disclosed that they are merging their structure to rally behind the APC gubernatorial candidate, Usman Ododo, for the November 11, 2023 election.

At the formal defection ceremony held in Lokoja on Thursday, the defectors stated that the Labour Party was no longer a viable option in the state.

They underlined their decision to abandon their party in favor of the APC due to their belief that the APC candidate, Usman Ododo, exemplified unity and possessed nationalist qualities necessary to build upon the achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello.

Leading the group, along with numerous supporters and other Labour Party members at the defection event, Awe Kayode, the Kogi State coordinator of the Obidient Movement, emphasized that the Labour Party structure in the state had been influential, delivering substantial votes to the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, without any incentives or external support.

He clarified that their choice to merge the Labour Party structure into the APC was motivated by their desire to collaborate with the Progressives in realizing the ‘Kogi Agenda,’ aimed at fostering unity among the populace and ensuring comprehensive development across the state.
