22 Soldiers Killed, Multiple Terrorist Leaders Eliminated In Borno – DHQ Review

The engagement took place in the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious stronghold of terrorists in the region. According to Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military operation, known as Operation Hadin Kai, commenced on January 16, 2025. Its primary focus is to dismantle terrorist strongholds in the area.

Buba’s statement confirmed the elimination of three high-ranking insurgent commanders: Talha, the Terrorist Special Forces Commander; Mallam Umar, the Operations Commander; and Abu Yazeed, the Brigade Commander, all of whom were killed during the encounter.

He said, “Troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast conducted a clearance operation targeting the well-known terrorist stronghold of the Timbuktu Triangle. The three-pronged operation began on January 16, 2025, and has been aimed at dismantling terrorist operations in the area. During these operations, our troops encountered terrorists multiple times, neutralizing over 70 combatants, including key commanders such as Talha, Mallam Umar, and Abu Yazeed.”

The military successfully countered various attacks, including those involving Improvised Explosive Devices, suicide bombers, and drones deployed by the terrorists.

The DHQ also confirmed the loss of 22 soldiers during the operation and urged the media to refrain from releasing their names until their families have been properly notified.
