The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement signed by Permanent Secretary Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, noting that the aircraft issued distress alerts while in Nigerian airspace, prompting an immediate emergency response.
LASEMA activated its emergency response plan via its 767/112 toll-free lines, ensuring rapid deployment of rescue teams. The agency credited the swift, coordinated response for preventing what could have been a major aviation disaster.
“Following distress alerts received at our Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency promptly activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans,” the statement read. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was caused by technical issues suffered by the aircraft.”
The agency commended the pilot’s professionalism, noting that he safely landed the aircraft while emergency teams stood by. After landing, passengers were evacuated safely with no injuries, and the aircraft was moved to the apron for detailed inspection and necessary repairs.
“All passengers were evacuated safely, and no casualties were reported,” LASEMA said. “There was no significant damage to the aircraft, which has since been secured and recovered. The rescue operation has been successfully concluded.”
Eyewitnesses at the airport described tense moments as emergency responders lined the runway and passengers braced for the unexpected landing.
