38 Individuals In Ogun State Renounce Cultism And Hand Over Weapons

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, announced on Tuesday that a significant number, totaling 48 members, from various cult groups in the Sagamu area have renounced their affiliations. These repentant individuals have willingly surrendered their firearms to the police for confiscation.

Among the weapons relinquished by the former cultists are one pump-action gun, four double barrels, seven single barrels, two English pistols, four locally made pistols, and 35 cartridges.

Alamutu emphasized the motive behind extending an olive branch to cultists, highlighting the opportunity for them to reform and contribute positively to societal harmony. He underscored the collaborative effort involving government, traditional leaders, and law enforcement to initiate this process, aligning with directives from Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at retrieving illicit firearms.

He urged remaining cultists to seize the chance provided, emphasizing the futility of cultism and the impending consequences for those who persist in such activities once the amnesty window closes.

Earlier remarks from Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remo land, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, emphasized the culmination of extensive engagement efforts with repentant cultists. Ajayi highlighted the detrimental effects of cultism on individuals and society, urging them to embrace a new path and reintegrate into the community.
