Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has officially reinstated Chief Jonathan Zamuna as the paramount ruler of Piriga in Lere local government area. The announcement was made during a meeting with the State Council of Chiefs on Thursday, July 4.
Chief Jonathan Zamuna was deposed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai shortly before the end of his tenure in 2023. Governor Sani clarified that the reinstatement follows a court order issued on June 10, 2024, restoring the traditional ruler to his position.
Governor Sani emphasized the importance of traditional institutions as stabilizing forces in Kaduna State and the nation at large. He pledged his administration’s commitment to working closely with the traditional leaders to enhance governance and community security.
“The Traditional Institution has remained a pillar of stability in our communities and across the state. Your resilience in preserving traditional values amidst modern challenges is commendable,” Governor Sani remarked.
Highlighting the role of traditional rulers in citizen engagement and governance, Governor Sani underscored their significance as critical stakeholders and influencers. He assured all traditional rulers of his administration’s respect for the rule of law and its commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing security challenges.
“In our one year in office, we have prioritized engaging critical stakeholders, including our traditional leaders, in our developmental agenda. We value your input and will continue to keep our doors open for constructive dialogue on development and security matters,” Governor Sani affirmed.
Addressing the security situation, Governor Sani acknowledged the impact of banditry and insecurity across various local government areas in the state. He outlined ongoing efforts to strengthen security measures, including plans for military deployment and enhanced intelligence gathering.
“Security remains a top priority for my administration. We are making significant strides in enhancing security presence and addressing threats across Kaduna State. With your support, we are confident in our ability to restore peace and stability,” Governor Sani assured.
