The governor made this declaration during a statewide address following violent unrest in Ukum LG, which prompted him to impose a curfew after widespread destruction of both public and private property. The unrest was triggered by fatalities in Ayati village.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, has relocated to Ukum LG, where 18 suspects linked to the unrest have been apprehended.
Governor Alia emphasized his government’s determination to collaborate closely with security forces to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice. He announced plans to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate the underlying causes of the violence.
Addressing the perpetrators directly, the governor urged them to cease criminal activities and warned that his administration would no longer tolerate lawlessness. He also commended security personnel for their efforts in maintaining peace amid the turmoil.
Alia concluded with a call for unity among residents to resist efforts to destabilize the state, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding the security and well-being of all Benue State citizens.
