The controversy arose from a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Dr. Ajuji Ahmed on June 24, titled “Need for NNPP Federal Lawmakers to Make Urgent and Concerted Efforts to End Immediately the Siege on Kano State by Agents of the Federal Government,” which prompted NNPP’s response.

Dr. Agbo stressed that Dr. Ajuji Ahmed had no authority to represent NNPP and denounced him as an impersonator who should face Senate scrutiny.

He explained, “Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the founder of NNPP and holder of its registration certificate, leads the board of trustees. Dr. Agbo Major serves as the national chairman, and Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday is the national secretary.”

NNPP’s stance is that the Kano Emirate leadership crisis is an internal matter for Kano State, grounded in local culture and tradition, and political party involvement is inappropriate. The party prioritizes societal peace, development, and the well-being of Nigerians.

The issue is currently before competent courts, and NNPP believes any National Assembly interference would complicate matters. Enhanced security is essential to prevent escalation of tensions caused by state government actions in Kano.

Dr. Agbo urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Elder Buba Galadima to respect court orders, stressing that NNPP lawmakers should pursue legal channels, given the matter’s judicial status.

The party seeks collaboration with the National Assembly to safeguard lives and property in Kano, emphasizing responsible partnership and adherence to the law. Any representations by Ahmed should be disregarded.

NNPP aims for peaceful development in Nigeria and urges Gov. Yusuf to focus on leadership, while calling on the Senate to ignore the inappropriate letter from expelled NNPP members led by Ahmed.
