Speaking at the South East Youth Leadership Development and Value Reorientation Summit in Enugu, Senator Abaribe underscored the pivotal role of foundational values like love, unity, truthfulness, and respect for human life in shaping a brighter future for the region. He emphasized that embracing these principles could empower young people to lead transformative changes, ensuring a more secure and prosperous South East.

“We need to return to the values that once defined our communities—love, unity, truthfulness, and respect for human life—if we are to build the future we aspire to,” Abaribe remarked.

He urged the youth to resist manipulation by criminal elements who disrupt economic activities under the guise of pursuing personal fulfillment. “Young people must uphold their values and reject destructive influences. The future belongs to you,” he emphasized.

Senator Uche Ekwunife, Director-General of the South-East Governors Forum and summit convener, emphasized the summit’s goal of empowering youth for regional growth and national development. She highlighted the importance of inspiring young leaders to emulate icons like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Alex Ekwueme, and Dora Akunyili, who have left indelible marks on the region’s history.

Ekwunife encouraged participants to reflect on their potential, talents, and skills, urging them to catalyze positive changes in their communities. This, she noted, would pave the way for a brighter future not just for the South East but for Nigeria as a whole.
