Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the National Campaign Council for the Edo State Governorship Election in Abuja, Barrister Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), the National Legal Adviser of the PDP, clarified that recent court decisions have largely favored the party’s position. He emphasized that the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment validates the legitimacy of the party’s candidate selection process, dispelling concerns raised in recent media reports.
Ajibade addressed the council, stating, “Contrary to recent misinterpretations, our primary election was not annulled, and our candidate remains qualified. Out of the eight cases filed in Edo, seven have been resolved in our favor. Such legal challenges are commonplace for a popular party like ours.”
He further explained, “The court’s focus was on delegate issues, affirming our internal party affairs are beyond external interference. Only legitimate participants in our primaries have the right to contest such matters in court, a precedent we’ve navigated successfully in the past.”
To bolster morale among campaign council members, Ajibade encouraged them to review the CTC for themselves, reassuring them of the party’s unwavering position.
Earlier, Ahmadu Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the Campaign Council, rallied members for the upcoming electoral battle. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but stressed Governor Obaseki’s proven leadership as pivotal to the party’s success in Edo.
“This election demands our full commitment and dedication,” Fintiri emphasized. “We must leverage Governor Obaseki’s achievements to secure victory. Our strategy sessions will be vital in preparing us for the campaign ahead.”
Fintiri called upon party leaders from Edo State to unite behind their candidate and the council, underscoring collective efforts for a successful campaign and election outcome.
