The Kano State Government initiated the case to recover funds reportedly diverted. This follows a court-ordered notice of trial served on the respondents through substituted means after extensive legal arguments.
On June 5, 2024, the Kano State High Court granted an order for substituted service via advertisements in two national dailies, including the Daily Trust and The Nation, which were published on June 6, 2024.
Respondents in the case include Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (1st respondent), Hafsat Ganduje (2nd respondent), and others accused of financial misconduct. Additional respondents are Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lesage General Enterprises.
Barrister Nuraini Jimoh, SAN, represented the sixth respondent in court. Presided over by Justice Amina Adamu, the court granted the order upon application by Zahradeen Kofar-Mata, counsel for the state government, and adjourned the hearing to July 11, 2024, instructing all parties to submit their fiat to the court.
