Governor Nasir Idris, speaking from Birnin-Kebbi, the state capital, unveiled the initiative aimed at alleviating food shortages and hardships faced by citizens. He emphasized that the 210 trucks of fertilizer would be distributed free of charge to rural peasant farmers across the state.

The announcement, conveyed through his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, outlined plans to benefit over 48,000 peasant farmers, ensuring they receive the necessary agricultural inputs directly in their villages and communities.

The initiative was officially launched under the auspices of the State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, managed by the Kebbi State Cares Coordinating Unit, in collaboration with the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and the Fadama III Implementing Unit under the Ministry of Agriculture.

Governor Idris affirmed his commitment to inclusivity in agricultural support, stressing the importance of equitably assisting all farmers in their cultivation efforts. The distribution plan includes 100 trucks of assorted fertilizer to be disbursed statewide at no cost, with an additional 110 trucks earmarked specifically for local government areas within the state.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the governor urged prudent utilization of the inputs to maximize food production and ensure self-sufficiency by the end of the rainy season.

Commissioner Abba Sani-Kalgo of the State Ministry for Budget and Economic Planning echoed the significance of the program, extending appreciation to the governor for his steadfast support and aid to both the ministry and the farming community across Kebbi State.
